 5 years of Visits to Wyedean School

At Wyedean School, we believe that learning languages opens doors & not just to new cultures, but to exciting careers and global opportunities. Since 2021, our ethos has been powerfully reinforced by the annual visits of David Binns, the UK Director of Sanako UK Digital Language Systems, whose inspiring talks to our Year 9 students have left a lasting impression.

David brought with him not only a wealth of industry knowledge but also an infectious enthusiasm and a refreshingly transparent and sincere approach.

His sessions focused on the real-world importance of language learning, particularly in industry, where multilingual skills are increasingly in demand.

He shared compelling examples of how languages can enhance employability, foster international collaboration, and enrich personal and professional lives. What made David’s talks truly special was his ability to connect with students. His passion for languages and his genuine interest in their futures sparked curiosity and motivation among our learners. It’s no surprise that his visits have had a tangible impact—our numbers for students opting to study a language at both GCSE and A Level have seen a noticeable increase since his involvement.

Having professionals like David visit our school is invaluable for our students’ personal development. It bridges the gap between classroom learning and the wider world, showing students the real-life relevance of their studies. David has become a valued friend of Wyedean, and his ongoing support is deeply appreciated. In recognition of his commitment, David now sponsors our KS5 Language Learner of the Year Award, presented annually to a student who has shown exceptional dedication and achievement in language studies. In 2022, we were honoured to welcome David to our Celebration Evening, where he personally presented the award to our winning student—a moment that highlighted the strong and inspiring partnership between Sanako and Wyedean School
