Technology in Language Teaching (TiLT) Event
Wednesday 22 March 2023
4.00 -6.00pm
Training students to speak spontaneously, read aloud unknown texts and transcribe accurately - is there a magic wand?
We would like to invite you to this in this in person event, kindly hosted by Mr Karsten Stephan of Alderman White School, Wendy will cover the following MFL topics
- Phonics and teaching accurate pronunciation
- Group Talk to develop spontaneous speech
- How to assess students‘ speaking skills quickly and accurately
This session will look the skills we need to develop in our KS3 and KS4 students so they are successful in the new GCSE (and indeed the current GCSE). We will focus in particular on how we ensure that students pronounce language correctly through phonics instruction and immediate feedback on their pronunciation.
We will look at the Group Talk technique, developed by Greg Horton, which won a European Award for Languages to help students to practise speaking in a spontaneous but controlled situation. We will also look at how you can assess your students’ speaking quickly and regularly and give them precise feedback so that they can make the best possible progress. No, there’s no magic wand, but there are techniques and tools that will make your life easier and will enable your students to make swift progress in speaking, reading aloud and transcribing aural language.
